Dear Client,
Please find below the latest market intelligence for the Indian Spice sector as of
13 October 2026.
Spices turned firm across the Delhi kirana market on 13 October 2026. Improved buying interest and thin stocks lifted Cumin, Fennel, Mustard Seed, Black Pepper and Large Cardamom. Melon Seed stayed soft because buyers stayed away at elevated levels, and a weak close in Fennel and Mustard Seed followed the early rally.
🟡 Turmeric Turns Bullish on Crop Damage Fears
Turmeric is firming sharply after a sustained lack of rain damaged the standing crop in key growing regions. Old stock in the pipeline has been cut by roughly 80 percent, and spot prices have jumped quickly. Rainfall has been poor in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and some areas are showing drying of the crop. Next year’s output could fall by up to 40 percent, so prices may firm further after a brief correction. Vendors are reported to have little stock in any mandi, and only limited trade is happening at the higher levels.
🌶️ Red Chilli Pauses but Underlying Tone Stays Firm
Red Chilli has softened slightly after the recent rally because buying has been sluggish in local and wholesale markets. The price pressure comes from weak buying by regular buyers and the spice trade. The underlying tone remains strong, as carry-over stock in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is described as historically low. The new crop is smaller than last year and old cold-storage stock has largely run out. Masala companies and stockists are providing some support, so the outlook is for prices to stay firm.
🔥 Cumin Set to Stay Strong on Tight Stocks
Cumin has strengthened, with quality grades gaining in both the spot and futures markets, on a shortage of stock in the spot market. Sowing for the coming rabi season in Gujarat and Rajasthan is approaching. Temperature and weather conditions are still uncertain, which keeps sentiment bullish. Stockists are holding back supplies in the hope of better returns. Festival and wedding-season buying by masala manufacturers, domestic processors and stockists has been strong, so further gains are expected.
💚 Small Cardamom Stays Profitable on Crop Shortfall
Small Cardamom has extended its recent rally, and prices remain well supported at higher levels. Production in Idukki, Kerala, fell by an estimated 25 to 30 percent because of poor rain and an unfavourable season during the early crop phase. Old stock from last season is almost exhausted, and fresh arrivals in the mandis are limited. Festive demand and the start of winter are lifting offtake in local markets and consumption centres. Guatemala, a key exporter alongside India, is also expected to see lower output, which keeps the outlook positive.
🌿 Large Cardamom Gains as Buying Returns
Large Cardamom moved higher as buying interest returned and selling by stockists weakened. Supply is tight, and prices are firm. The market tone stays positive for the near term, though higher levels may limit fresh buying.
⚫ Black Pepper Stays Firm on Costly Imports
Black Pepper is firm after a period of stability. Arrivals in Kochi and other mandis are limited because farmers are holding back stock. Imported pepper has become more expensive because of the rupee’s position against the dollar and higher import costs. Domestic demand and prices have both strengthened as a result, so the outlook stays positive.
🟤 Dry Ginger Poised for More Upside
Indian Dry Ginger is seeing steady international demand, while output from producers such as Nigeria has fallen and global availability is lower. Large stockists and traders have raised buying at lower levels, which is lending support to prices. Winter demand and use in Ayurvedic and food products are expected to keep consumption going. Fresh raw ginger arrivals are poor and processing costs are not falling, so prices could rise further and a steep fall looks unlikely.
🌱 Fennel and Mustard Seed Firm on Thin Supplies
Fennel and Mustard Seed both moved up on a shortage of stock in the spot market. Fennel is also benefiting from the festival and wedding-season demand building across the country. Mustard Seed is benefiting from active buying. The tone is positive, and prices are likely to stay supported while stocks remain tight.
🌸 Cloves Lose Momentum on Heavy Imports
Cloves are steady after recent gains and are unlikely to see a long rally. Heavy imports from Madagascar and Indonesia continue to reach various ports. Domestic mandis therefore hold plenty of stock, and demand from regular wholesale buyers is weak. Traders are avoiding fresh stocking at the current high levels, so the market is expected to stay range-bound.
