Dagadphul

DAGADPHUL

Dagadphul, also known as Black Stone Flower or Kalpasi, is a unique dried lichen revered in Indian cuisine for its distinctive earthy and woody aroma. This essential spice acts as a subtle yet powerful flavor enhancer, particularly in slow-cooked dishes and traditional spice blends. Shingotex ensures the supply of premium Dagadphul, carefully sourced and processed to deliver an authentic taste and aromatic experience.

Origin

Our Dagadphul is primarily sourced from the pristine, unpolluted Western Ghats regions of India, including parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, where it naturally thrives on trees and rocks.

Harvest Season

Dagadphul is typically harvested post-monsoon, from September to December, when conditions are optimal for collection, ensuring a rich and potent yield.

Qualities & Grades

  • Premium Grade A: Consists of large, intact thalli (lichen body) with uniform dark brownish-black color and minimal foreign matter, characterized by a strong, characteristic aroma. Ideal for discerning culinary uses and direct spice applications.
  • Standard Grade B: Features smaller, fragmented pieces with good color and aroma, suitable for grinding into spice blends and masalas, offering excellent value for bulk culinary preparations.

Packing

Shingotex offers Dagadphul in standard packing of 25 kg and 50 kg PP bags. Customized packing solutions, including smaller retail packs or specific bulk requirements, are available upon request to meet diverse client needs.

Characteristics

Dagadphul presents as dried, flat, frond-like lichen, typically dark greenish-brown to blackish-brown with a slightly rough, velvety texture. It imparts a unique earthy, woody, and mossy aroma, often described as reminiscent of a forest floor. When incorporated into dishes, it contributes a subtle, umami-rich, and slightly smoky flavor, enhancing the depth and complexity of gravies, curries, and biryanis without overpowering other spices.
