Spice markets turned mixed on 21 October. Black pepper and dry ginger firmed on improved buying interest and weak selling pressure. Weak monsoon conditions and soil-moisture stress across South India are raising concerns about next season’s spice output, which supports a firm medium-term price outlook.<\/strong>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Black pepper moved up as demand improved and buyers returned to the market. Sellers also held back stock, which tightened spot availability. Supply from producing regions remains limited, which keeps sentiment positive. Prices are expected to stay firm as festival and winter demand builds.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Dry ginger gained strongly as customers re-entered the market and selling pressure eased. Fresh ginger and garlic prices have also risen sharply in recent weeks, which adds to the firm sentiment. Weak supply and the approaching wedding and winter season are supporting demand. The near-term outlook stays bullish unless fresh arrivals improve.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Cumin eased after a sustained rally as stockists sold and profit-booking set in. Spot arrivals are limited, and traders are holding stock in expectation of better rates. The upcoming rabi sowing in Gujarat and Rajasthan is under uncertainty because of weather and temperature, which keeps the market cautious. Prices are expected to consolidate before turning firmer.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Turmeric weakened after a long rally because buying slowed and upside momentum faded. Arrivals in mandis are low, and old stock has also been falling for several years. Weak rainfall and soil-moisture stress may cut 2026-27 production by about 10 percent, even though the sown area has expanded. The market is likely to stabilise soon, with a firm bias if the weather turns unfavourable.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Coriander dipped as selling by stockists and profit-booking cooled the market. New-crop arrivals in major mandis such as those in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are below normal, and some stock is being withheld. Global supply is also limited, so international demand for Indian coriander is good. Export momentum has slowed a little at higher levels. The market should remain profitable going forward, and farmers may expand sowing this season.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Delayed sowing in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana because of inadequate rain is pushing the new crop’s arrival later. A delayed harvest could keep supply tight and support prices. Last year’s carryover stock is lower and export demand may improve, so the market could turn strong. Dry red chilli prices have already shown a sharp year-on-year gain, and producers expect the support to continue.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Farmers in Ferozepur, Punjab, are expanding green chilli cultivation sharply as they see better income than wheat. Their plan is to supply about 700 tons for export to Dubai, backed by a renewed agreement with an Indian exporter and a pre-fixed purchase rate. Nursery preparation is under way this month, transplanting is due in November, and the first harvest should come around April.
